Sustainable Bolting and Bolt Removal | Protection Bolts The unique twisted leg design (patent applied for) of Bolt Products glue-in bolts represents a major breakthrough in rock anchors. Exceptional glue bond allows polyester glue to be used No notching therefore no reduction in strength Sufficient glue mass removes need for oversize holes Easy gluing in overhanging rock Massive strength reserves in case of poor installation No welding required reducing production costs Reduced production costs Minimum visual impact Removability- the first bolt designed to be removable and the hole re-used Bolt Products Twisted Leg bolts are the strongest in the world, our design produces a mechanical fixing on extraction in addition to the already adequate chemical bond. In tests Bolt Products bolts have at least 50% higher pull-out resistance than any comparable bolt! Go to Strength and Tests for comparison tests, pull-out results and tests performed without glue. |

Glue-in Protection Bolts

Twisted Leg or Solid Leg?
We offer bolts in both twisted leg and welded solid leg designs, but which is better?
Strength is not a concern, all of our bolts have breaking strains nearly double that of the other components used when rock climbing.
Twisted leg bolts are cheaper, have less reliance on glue quality, better corrosion resistance and a higher pull out resistance but generally require a larger diameter hole to be drilled.
Solid leg bolts can be placed in smaller holes, saving on drilling time in hard rock and can have thicker material increasing their life if used for lowering and toproping. The lack of any mechanical effect means they are more reliant on good quality gluing, compounded by the reduced hole size giving less glue/rock bond area.
As with all welded products there is an increased risk of corrosion in agressive environments such as near the sea and twisted leg bolts are a better choice.
For general bolting and sea cliffs we recommend the use of twisted leg bolts.
For hard rock areas solid leg bolts reduce drilling time but require higher performance glues such as epoxy acrylate.

Solid Leg Series
8mm Rod Solid Leg Bolt
For customers wishing to reduce the amount of drilling we produce solid leg bolts with double-start machined glue grooves for exceptional bonding and holding power.
Hand TIG welded these are the strongest bolt you can get into a small diameter hole. Diagonal end to prevent rotation and eliminate the need to recess the bolt eye.

12mm Crux Monster Bolt
Specially developed for crux bolts in soft rock which are repeatedly fallen on. The flexing of normal bolts can cause cracking of the rock below the bolt which is unsightly and worrying even though there is unlikely to be any serious loss of strength. These bolts are naturally much stiffer than normal and this cracking much reduced.
Double start grooves for excellent bonding, TIG welded eye and naturally immensly strong.
Eye internal dimensions 20mm wide x 30mm high.

Bolt-In Protection Bolts
10mm and 12mm Wedge Anchors
These are a high quality product with European Technical Certificate ETA-05/0199 for torque controlled anchors and made from AISI316 (A4) stainless steel.
The best priced quality bolt we can source and batch tested by ourselves to ensure consistant quality.
This type of bolt is generically known as „torque controlled“ and the recommended tightening torque must be adhered too. If you are unable to apply this torque before the bolt starts to extract the rock is probably too soft and it will almost certainly rip out under load. A different anchor design such as an undercut will probably give better results, please contact us for help.
See Bolting Information for more information and tips on mechanical rock anchors.

Extra Long Bolts
We also make up extra-long bolts for fixing loose blocks to the cliff as these are unobtainable elsewhere. These are normally made from 12mm bolts with a 10mm rod diagonally cut and welded in place (the strongest method). We make these up to suit the drilling depth for long-series drills, usually in 300, 400 and 600mm lengths, please contact us for details and price. Others diameters can also be made up to your specification.
Bolt Hangers
The innovation in bolt hangers in the last 30 years!
Designed to adress the two main problems with traditional plate hangers;- visual impact and sharp edges.
Our bent rod hangers are kind on your karabiners, allow threading and lowering off and have a visual impact 60% less than a plate hanger.
The eye design virtually eliminates involuntary unclipping while the rod construction reduces the risk of the karabiner nose catching on the hanger in the unlikely event of it occuring..
Immensly strong rod construction prevents damage to karabiners and slings and allows direct threading of the rope for abseiling.
Manufactured by cold forming and full TIG welded this is the strongest bolt hanger available with the 8mm rod model exceeding 50kN in our tests. We have to use special hardened steel bolts to destruction test these as the normal 10mm A4 stainless bolts fail first!
Available in 6mm and 8mm rod and eyes to suit 10mm or 12mm 1/2". Also available is the 8mm rod belay hanger for 16mm bolts for high-use belays in sandstone.
6 and 8mm Rod-10/12mm Bolt Protection Hanger
Hanger shown here is the 8mm rod 12mm eye model
Small but incredibly strong, this is our standard protection bolt hanger, double welded and with an eye large enough for two karabiners or karabiner and rope.
