A strange place to find one of the top routes in Greece, consisting of some huge interlinked caves above the sea but if you penetrate through the enormous caverns to the last chamber a steep slab 25m high allows you to climb out into the open. An amazing place and worth a visit even for non-climbers, the football pitch sized caverns were the home to the earliest settlers on the north Mediterranean coast, hence the old excavations. Some horribly steep roof climbs and the best 6th grade climbing to be found are rounded off with some bizarre top rope routes in the crevasses in the floor, surprisingly good wet-weather climbs 20m long. 24 single pitch sport routes between 4b and 7c and some hard free projects to be done. The cave is illuminated from outside and the Sector Last Exit routes are a fantastic experience in the dark. Under 10 minute walk in along the coast.

The Routes

Climb Wild Frontier, the best 6b by far and then Christmas Day at the Workhouse "the best 6a in Greece", while you are feeling good do Mission Impossible for the full 30m 6c experience, nudging up the bottomless slab on micro holds is not to be forgotten in a hurry. For strong roof climbers Wild Monkeys is a reasonable proposition at 7b+/7c while the line of the cliff Caveman 8a/b is still awaiting a redpoint.(open project)
